Surely there must be a problem that he hasnt talked to you about..... he either is scared of his own family or disappointed by it.....

If you find it worth saving him, then Keep him at home.... talk to him and become his friend.... it will take time and effort but make him feel safe at home and with his family.. then change your neighbourhood.... stay his friend and keep your promises that you make to him....
