@Vivaci This brings up great memories of the least expensive places, including most of Europe in the 1960s ... and how fast it all changes practically overnight.
Most great French restaurants had 10, 15 and 20 NF menus that matched Babette's Feast. Also hotel rates in Athens of $2 to $3 per night.

@Heartlander Lol!!! Wow…that’s dirt cheap! Really? 😯
I personally love traveling and exploring such places…but after covid, it’s all a gamble.

@Vivaci Yes, really. European currencies were probably still trying to find value, 20 years after WW2. Like the New Franc (NF) was created because the old French Franc had so low a value that they turned 100 old Francs into one New Franc. Local currencies in some places were so unstable that US greenbacks were illegal.
Yeah…I remember those coins that went redundant when I was a kid…some copper coins that were 50 odd years old then…and 1$ had a lot of value in those days! I remember my dad’s diary where he had written expenses. …his wedding catering cost was so cheap in today’s currency! 😆 @Heartlander

@Vivaci Reaching back in memory, I believe there was a great restaurant in (?? Seattle or Tacoma) that paved their floor with those big copper pennies. I think it was called the 10-Penny restaurant or something similar.
I have a cigar box that's half full of old coins from various countries. Likely including some of those British pennies. I made a special point of holding on to a few of those old "6 Pence" pieces because of that old "I've got 6 pence, jolly-jollyy 6 pence ..." song we use to sing as kids.

@Heartlander Haha!!! My mom also has this box of old coins…the ones with holes and silver and gold ones too. 😃
Wow…I would love to visit the 10 Penny restaurant…how exclusive that experience must be!
In some of the old English pubs, you’ll find these coins and photos of the post WW on the ceilings…it imparts such a cozy nostalgic ambience to them.
Lovely song…I’ll be listening to it again…thank you for sharing, Heartlander. 💕🤗
My tuppence song would be this…[media=https://youtu.be/S2VVjNvhlms] I think it evolved from two pence?

@Vivaci Rejogging the memory, I believe it may have ben the 13 Coins Restaurant in Seattle, and not 10 Pennies. A quick internet check suggests that a few restaurants ad pubs around the world paved there floor with coins.
The 13 is probably some way connected to the spirit of the 13 Arras that's popular in many Hispanic wedding and/or engagement ceremonies, where the groom (to be) presents the bride (to be) 13 coins, ideally 12 gold and 1 platinum coin. Considering the price of gold coins, the Arras have for many may be in silver coins and even copper pennies. After all, it's the thought that counts :)
