Helping Ukraine ..

I mentioned in an earlier post a unique way of helping people directly ..

Mak is among thousands of people using Airbnb as an immediate and intimate way to help those living through war in Ukraine. On Wednesday and Thursday, more than 61,000 nights were booked in Ukraine from people around the world, according to an Airbnb spokesman, who added that the total booking value was nearly $US2 million.

@MrBrownstone It's pretty deadly, but not as deadly as an attack helicopter. Figured that would be obvious but ya learn something new every day I guess.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins So deadly everyone had to wear a mask
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone How many human lives, exactly, is equivalent to the cost of you having to wear a mask?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins Well consider no one died because I didn’t wear one.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone That's a little like driving drunk in the city & then saying it's fine because you didn't run anyone over.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins false equivalence
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone It's not an equivalence, it's an analogy.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins Viruses exist for hundreds of years. Why weren’t people always wearing masks?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone Viruses have existed a lot longer than that, bucko. People haven't always worn masks during pandemics because y'know, it was only in the late 1800s that we even discovered viruses.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins Thanks for not answering the question
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone We haven't always worn masks during pandemics because we only learned recently that they're effective... I mean, we did wear masks of some kind in like the Black Death and stuff, but since the people still believed the miasma theory, the masks weren't actually designed to filter out pathogens. Do I make myself clear?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins Do you know CDC has said masks don’t work? Dr. Fauci said masks don’t work?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone Not true, dude.

Fauci said it, sure, but he kinda admitted to lying on the subject so idk why you'd take that seriously almost 2 years later.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins So what else has he lied about?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone Well you know, I think I heard him say that the sky is blue on a clear day, so that was probably a lie now that you mention it.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins So you pick and choose what’s true and legit websites. Got it
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone No actually, I use a media bias fact checker. What do you use?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins Do you background check the fact checkers? I use history of past pandemics. The Hong Kong flu pandemic was not that deadly because people built up immunity from prior pandemics.
Confined · 56-60, M
@BlueVeins The only mask that does anythi g is the N95.
But we are being told to wear a mask no thicker then your underware. Cloth and paper mask do nothing, zero', zilch, nada. So why are we still wearing them?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone Where do you get information about past pandemics?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Confined They actually do, scientists have demonstrated this effect with randomized real-world trials.

MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@BlueVeins Family members
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MrBrownstone I'll be frank and say that it's not fully possible to verify the veracity of a fact checker without using some kind of outside source. But there is a stunning tendency among sources that are highly-rated to not contradict each other and paint a consistent and believable picture of the world regardless of their political leanings. If sources rated highly by fact checkers really weren't connected to reality at all, then it would be in their best interests to accuse one another of outright lying/call one another out on lying when they are. It's not a perfect system, but it's the best available.

You say that you base your knowledge of pandemics on your family members. Can you please explicate how your family members know what they know about pandemics? I more-or-less agree that past exposure to pandemics can improve resistant to current ones; I think that's well-founded. But I want to know more about how you judge information.
