When people say, "thats what friends are for" is there actually a responsibility in order to be classed as a friend?

Friendship is a social contract.
Sometimes the bounds are life (friends we can always rely on 24/7)
Sometimes they are work friends and the friendship ends when the work isn't around.
Sometimes... those friends might be temporary. I remember going to a conference decades ago and I met a guy there. We were each other's wingman for four days and then we never talked to each other again.
