@JimboSaturn The open fire is beautiful. I have an open fire in my house too. I don't have central heating, and winter is long and cold where I live.

My gas furnace heats the house the fireplace is mostly for enjoyment @helenS

@JimboSaturn I live a simple but happy life. My house is very old. I have enough wood and enough red wine for a long cold winter.

@helenS Before this house I rented a 150 year old house that was drafty. That is an old house by Canadian standards

@JimboSaturn I do not really know how old my house is. Older people say it's always been here, in the woods by the lake.

Some say life in the country is boring, but to me it isn't. Watching birds flying over the lake is much nicer than watching taxi cabs in the streets of some large city.

@helenS it be nice to do both city and country. The city for the cultural experiences the country for the natural beauty

@Rpfun78 Oh yes, that's true. I have a motor scooter, and in summer I love riding into the city to enjoy some cultural events. In winter it's not possible of course. So I'll have those long winter nights with books and wine and music. And maybe a gentle visitor, occasionally? 😏

A few weeks in the city beam me up able to walk to restaurants museums theaters. Then drive out to the country stopping at a grocery store to fully stock your refrigerators and pantries. Enjoy the solitude@helenS

@Rpfun78 haha not exactly. But really I don't need a fridge. Mankind has survived for thousands of years without fridges so why shouldn't I?
I have stored more than enough food for a long winter. Two shelves with apples, for example. Two buckets with walnuts from my own walnut tree. Many more things.

Had a friend who didn’t fridge and .TV got visited by power co. Because they didn’t believe they have TV @helenS
