Cheating on a partner is caused by so many reasons, defining it to one character trait is ridiculous.
Humans are complex creatures, and human relationships, even more so.
There are usually many factors at work when somebody resort's to cheating.
These studies are skewed.
Biased claims made by studies that don't take the whole of a person's life and personality traits into account - just a snapshot.
One chests when a relationship is failing, and since we find much of our confidence from others, especially a loved one, a failing relationship will of course damage a person's ego.
The very act of cheating is to fill that emotional hole once filled by another: that sense of emotional "wholeness"
It's kinda like saying, "most people are more likely to eat when they are hungry" 馃槀
Well Duh!
Yes, emotionally frail people cheat, but it's usually the loss of emotional support that makes one frail in the first place.
It might be better to claim that those with temporary low self esteem are easier targets for casual sexual encounters than those with higher esteem, bacause of their present vulnerability.
Those who are naturally insecure people are usually too afraid to even attemp such a thing.
