But very few minivans. With an all wheel drive minivan you get a room of a big ass SUV. most car crossovers are smaller. I have an all wheel drive minivan and I know it’s very rare.

If you're getting AWD because of weather/terrain, you probably also need ground clearance.

At that point... a minivan doesn't make sense.

@Jonjdw I had a Sunbird (the pontiac equivalent of the cavalier). It wouldn't say it was graceful. :-)

@SW-User yes that’s the brother car to the cavalier. Later the sunfire.

@SW-User update. Drove it on unplowed roads up hill. Another car that was front wheel was spinning its tires the whole way up the hill. I have done that up the hill and others.

But my all wheel drive mini van when right past him even though I had to go around him and lose the momentum that I had. It did not spin the tires just went right up the hill.

all depens on your needs but I have found that if you need more utility it's better to go with a light duty offroader/softroader than beefing up a minivan

minivans may be AWD but even then they don't have the clearance or under body protection of SUVs/CUVs

I personally drive a Tucson and Hyundai did something clever,
where most companies mod a 2WD platform for 4WD
Hyundai did it the other way around

it really works for me, under body and tire clearance of 4WD, and not have to worry about the added expense

@RoxClymer well I needed a minivan and this one just happen to have all wheel drive which is rare. I do have a jeep Cherokee but it don’t have the third row seat. Front wheel drive does very well in the snow but my minivan now if the front wheels are spinning the rear wheels will kick in and I should go.

@RoxClymer also I did not be beef up the minivan it’s factory all wheel drive.

And those little Hyundais are way too small for my needs. I have my four grandchildren living with me and three grown children. There is nine of us living here.

AWD is likely to become more common on electric vehicles for practicality as the transmission power trains shift to the wheel...😷
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I guess. But right now I don’t think there are any all-wheel-drive electric vehicles.
@whowasthatmaskedman Yeah... and most people won't be buying electric vehicles because of the requirement to have a home charging point.

People who live in flats or houses without drives/garages are at a loss straight away.

@HootyTheNightOwl Thats a new one on me. And frankly I cant imagine it even in Britain.😷
The downside of AWD though is that it decreases MPG.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@latinbutterfly yes. But when you live where snow is it’s worth it.
@Jonjdw I'm in Illinois, so I know what you mean by that.
