I had a vivid Dream

I had a bad vivid dream 12 years ago and it is still bothering me to this day. Has that ever happened to anyone else? What happened in the dream really disturbed me and now I am blaming myself for problems that are happening today, I am not being so easy on myself because of the dream. As I see some of the stuff happening today, I think more about the dream.
How does dreaming something make you responsible for like things that happen?
@taLking5 I would be more inclined to think that things going on around you that you may have noticed subconsciously were manifested in dreams. A report, not an action plan.

@Mamapolo2016 That is interesting, I never thought about that. When I had the dream, my parents were getting a divorce (they had been separated since I was 3 years old. I did not know that they were still married until then). Also, there had been other things that had gone on during that time then sadly, my mother got bad news from the doctor, she was diagnosed with an illness then a few years later she was told that she is not that ill. When she had an appointment with her new doctor, she told him that she wanted to visit a hospital in another state, to get a new opinion. When she mentioned that, her doctor told her that she didn't have to because what she has is not really cancer, it is an autoimmune disorder.
@taLking5 I really think dreams are our brain tidying up the place, snipping off loose threads.

So, for instance, if you notice your mother is feeling ill a lot, and you worry, a dream may say, "Okay, what's that word you can't say? Oh, yes, cancer. Well, all you can do is encourage her to see a doctor and support her through what's next - but you can't CHANGE it. Toss that idea in the circular file."

I would probably worry more about How the dream ends !
