I would just give the honesty a chance
Sorry not the words your looking for i guess
But imagine once an excuse and cancel will end in multiple
If it comes to a lie or not fully honest atleast
It will make it only harder the next time you acctually want to
In case it maybe about how others would see you by canceling
Just tell em that they can stub their toe or something idk
Listen to what feels good no need to walk circles around why you could not
In the end it helped me improve lots with many people i met
For better and worse but it starts to make much more sense after a while
