@danziger: Well, antisemitism is rampant, so it was easier to pretend to be catholic in public but Jewish at home.

@danziger: That's okay, you can't win every battle.

@ZefNinjaa: When 6 klansman drive up your driveway and say, "Kill the nigger Jews." Would you honestly walk out of your house with a kippa on, and drive to temple? What about when another group of klansman shoots at your mailbox with a sawed off shotgun? We were not cowards, we were protecting our selves the best way we knew how.

@danziger: Yeah, they eventually stopped when they finally realized we weren't leaving.

@ZefNinjaa: What would you have done? I was seven then. So what would seven year old you do? If you were me a religious and ethnic minority living in the Deep South, with a northeastern accent?

@ZefNinjaa: You don't have to. I know what happened because I lived it. And I'm not dishonest about who I am. Can you comprehend the gravity of that situation? Not knowing if you could trust anyone because you never know who the klansman are. So yeah, when the police came to my house and questioned us about the series of events, my parents said that we were converting to Catholicism and leaving the Jewish faith. Which we did. We went to mass instead of temple, but practiced the traditions of our Jewish faith at home. We put up a Christmas tree and decorations, we even celebrated Easter and Halloween. We played the part. If you don't like it, it's not my problem. Do you know what's it's like to have a stranger paint a sawstika on your mothers car. Or to have a child your own age ask if you liked ovens over gas chambers? Then you have to leave that daycare center, and go to another. What about when I was a teenager and people found out I was Jewish and threw pennies at me and my twin brother. I'm not talking about 1945, this was the early 2000's.
