Why do you have to be a certain age to buy a mobile phone?

I was buying a phone yesterday and the man behind the desk almost didn't let me buy it.

Idk maybe kids may misuse it.

I got my first device when I was 14 years old. But back then you couldn't do a lot with it. The camera lagged. The only mode of internet was gprs. Bluetooth was slow and the phone had an internal memory in megabytes.

@Beatbox34 Wow! I'm 14 now and I got my first phone when I was 12. I need one to call my parents after school and I like it to watch videos and listen to music and be here. 😊

@Manfretthemanic Things between then and now are so different. I'm 30 now and kids as young as 8 or under start using mobile phones. It's become a bare necessity given how landlines are declining but back then at least in India, landlines still prevailed. It wasn't until 2008 or so when it started declining.

@Beatbox34 Do you live in India?
Here we went don't have a land-line and even if we did I couldn't use it to tell my parents I am safe on the train.
My parents wouldn't let me have one until I was a little older though.

@Manfretthemanic Yes I live in india.

I mean since cellphones weren't a big thing then. There used to be booths in every nook and cranny where one could pay money to call someone up. I remember taking my mother to call her sister in the other state in 2006.

@Beatbox34 Wow! That's so cool. I never used a phone like that before but I did see one. I would like to take one apart to find out how it works.
