How much is a guys masculinity worth?

Considering gay panic and trans panic legal defences which are when a "man" finds himself with a gay dude or trans woman and goes crazy and kills them: This is a legal defence which is still used in places.

Goes crazy?....how does that happen just suddenly out of the blue.
The only time I can think of "anyone" going crazy is if the other person is doing or about to do something that's inappropriate.
