I miss taking pictures with my Samsung tablet, but some are saved here by sharing them in the past.
These are the big 3
the 3 best box sets i've ever gotten so far, from The Criterion Collection, on stunning Blu-ray. Maybe in the future a mega set will be done by them in UHD, and that would be SUPERB!!
Here i'd like to give another try at dissecting them, as i go through them, to help others know how good they are, and to keep occupied during the days, weeks and months till i can spend some more. These sets are gifts that keep on giving!!
Ingmar Bergman's Cinema
30 discs, about 90% of his filmography, the major ones have extras while the minor ones are paired 2 a piece on a disc. And it has a large impressive book of essays. When i got this i was driven mad, and spent hundreds on Bergman books, and a few titles only on DVD.
The Complete Films of Agnes Varda
15 discs, the entire oeuvre of the Mother of the Nouvelle Vague, she is just a pure delight.
Essential Fellini
14 features, lots of supplements and one long ass documentary on Marcello Mastroianni.
Variety Lights - not too shabby! This disc has part 1 of a 4 part interview with Federico, and a 100 minute documentary that has footage of him directing, always interesting, and little snippets of films not in this set. I reiterate from other posts, next purchase is gonna complete my FF collection, and i feel excellent about it!!
The White Sheik - Orson Welles' favorite Fellini, and it is pretty good.
I vitelloni - Scorsese liked this one a lot and inspired Mean Streets. It is what is being watched as i decide to post this. A very fine film, about these lazy guys and one of them is unfaithful to his wife, and he like has to be taught a lesson. Fellini shows a gifted touch for emotional storytelling with the help of Nino Rota's evocative score.
