Organizers of the Tokyo Olympics banned all spectators from events in the capital city, where a state of emergency was declared Thursday amid surging COVID-19 cases there.

Seiko Hashimoto, the president of the Tokyo Olympics Organizing Committee, said it was “regrettable” that the sporting event would be held in a limited format in the capital.

Aw, that's sad. But next to canceling the games, it's the best decision they could make. We've surged every time there's a national holiday and everyone flocks to Florida. Can you imagine what a traveling international audience of that size could do to assist in pandemic spread? I understand all the dedication, time and pursuit of excellence, but when you get right down to it, it's throwing heavy stuff and running. We'll live without it for a couple years.

Wow, the money that decision must be costing them. They have few ways to recoup the outlay.
