How do you tell in laws not to give you or your hubby their junk?

My hubby has a mild hoarding habit. He’s already got a basement full of useless shit. whenever someone (anyone) offers him more shit (dishes, clothing etc) he feels obligated to take it even if we don’t need it. My in laws are aware of this and continue to offer us and give us their shit - even me. And it’s nothing we absolutely need. Ever. It’s just “stuff” they don’t wanna do away with themselves. Old clothing, old binders, knick knacks.

They know I am a clutter manager around here. I politely decline and in a round about way remind them that I am working to manage possessions we already have (which again, they already know because they think hubby is “sick” based on his hoarding habits) I don’t wanna seem ungrateful but I don’t want your clutter!

Receive the things they give then drop them at Red Cross.

@GunFinger See i used to do that but then I am making more work for myself. You don’t give booze to an alcoholic or drugs to an addict. STOP giving the hoarder your clutter!!

@GunFinger That’s no good, what happens when they come over for tea & Great Uncle Seamus’s chamber pot is missing? 🤣🤣🤣

@BalmyNites she should tell the inlaws she gave them to the husband. Wait..do hoarders remember what they have?
BalmyNites · F
@GunFinger They know exactly what they have lol 😂

Ha NO! He has no mental inventory of his belongings! This makes it easy in a way for me to pitch his shit! Ive done it many times and he hasn’t evennoticed. @GunFinger I do it with guilt though - I am not sure if what I am pitching has any sentimental value. Sometimes not even sure if it has monetary value.

@BalmyNites This is easily avoided bc they know he had a hoarding issue and there’s almost no hope of him recovering seamus’ teapot even if he remembered he had it!!
