Just reject every time they offer you anything because one day if they are dissatisfied with you they will remind you how much stuff they gave you and you will be the ungrateful one.

GunFinger · F
Receive the things they give then drop them at Red Cross.
BalmyNites · F
@GunFinger They know exactly what they have lol 😂
GunFinger · F
@BalmyNites yikes...😂
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
Ha NO! He has no mental inventory of his belongings! This makes it easy in a way for me to pitch his shit! Ive done it many times and he hasn’t evennoticed. @GunFinger I do it with guilt though - I am not sure if what I am pitching has any sentimental value. Sometimes not even sure if it has monetary value.

@BalmyNites This is easily avoided bc they know he had a hoarding issue and there’s almost no hope of him recovering seamus’ teapot even if he remembered he had it!!

If I were you I would not worry about seeming ungrateful I was just tell them to take it to the Salvation Army you don't need no more of their junk LOL
BalmyNites · F
@Snuffy1957 Innit 😁
BalmyNites · F
I would tell them straight, upfront - thank you for the offer, but we are going for the minimalist lifestyle now & getting rid of stuff, hence we won’t be wanting to add to what we already have 😊
BalmyNites · F
@DoubleRings She ain’t hearing you sister - tell her STRAIGHT 😉😘
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
@BalmyNites I’m trying not to be rude … lol to me, if my hubby was an alcoholic it would make sense not to offer him a drink…. they themselves beleive he has a hoarding problem. Why are they giving us more stuff???
BalmyNites · F
@DoubleRings You don’t have to be rude, there’s a difference between assertive & aggressive 😊 Just politely & consistently refuse each time something gets offered
SW-User
If they don't seem to hear me I give it away again.

Donate it to charity. Everyone is happy.

Whenever they bring things or offer to give things, ask them to take something from you..
Start giving back stuff they gave you..
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
@SW-User I should try to offer them something Even if i think they don’t need it, see how they react just for research. Cause other than the knick knacks, which they have organized nicely in their own home, they don’t store anything. It might be interesting to see how they decline my offer.
SW-User
@DoubleRings
Yup.. then you could use that same reason to decline their next offer.. maybe they'll finally take the hint..

Or simply tell them that you won't be accepting anything from them that you don't need or have a use for and that they must stop giving things to your husband.

There's an easy way to take care of it. Call a local extermintor for a free estimate and make sure he recommends that the basement be cleaned
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
The issue is with your husband, not the in-laws. He needs to tell them he doesn't want anymore of their junk.
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
he won’t though because he hoards. @SumKindaMunster
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
Take it and throw it out. If they ask where it is tell them in the attic until you redecorate or politely tell them you don’t want their 40 year old stuff
clutter is God's way of tellig us to fix our PERSONAL BOUNDARIES!!!

Terrible problem here too...with the housemate. He has no boundaries.
SW-User
You are allowed to be rude in this instance.
They are enabling.
Your husband needs help. If he is unwilling to seek help, you are not under any obligation to stay .
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
🤔.....I have 30 years of stuff in my basement, NO more stuff....
MarineBob · 56-60, M
He's cheaper than a dumpster rental
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
@MarineBob and more convenient than a donation centre!!!
Nayla · 51-55, F
Sell it all
