Help me settle a dispute between my wife and I. Which one of us is right - me or her?

On several occasions my wife has asked me a question in which I have no definitive answer or scientific opinion. For example, my wife will ask me something like, "do you think the covid-19 virus was engineered in a Wuhan Lab?"

My answer will be something along the lines of: "I don't know. From the information I've read, I would say no because it doesn't have properties of an engineered virus, but I don't trust China, neither do I trust the US's intelligence agencies, so I don't know."

Then my wife will say: "I didn't ask you what you knew. I asked you what do you think."

My response: "I told you my thoughts. What else do you want me to say?"

Wife: "So, you can't tell me your opinion. You don't have an opinion as to whether or not the virus was engineered?"

Me: "I am telling you my opinion, but I can't give a definitive answer as to whether or not the virus was engineered because I don't know."

Wife: "But you can give me your opinion. I asked for your opinion."

Me: "I gave you my opinion."

Wife: ""I don't know" is not an opinion."

I see where she's coming from. Some people I know don't want to take a stance on anything that isn't proven. They can't answer hypothetical questions either. She's annoyed because your answer is what somebody else thinks i.e whoever said it doesn't look like an engineered virus, she wants to know what you think. But if you don't have an opinion you don't have an opinion. So say you don't have an opinion, not that you don't know.

@Rolexeo You sound a lot like her. I don't get it. It's not that my answer is what someone else thinks; it's that my answer is based on the information I have and I can't definitively express an opinion on something if I don't know all the facts.

@TheArbitrator We never have all the facts, that's why science is constantly evolving, so yes you could still have an opinion. You don't have to have an opinion, her issue is how you phrase it "I don't know" and that you're not adding your own input to the conversation.
