What you may not, and I certainly do not, know is whether the fault was by pure chance or if as Mysteryespresso alleges, Samsung's product quality and value were generally low. (Note - value, not price.)
For although it is not fair to expect no faults at all among any mass-produced items of electronic, electric mechanical equipment, I would expect that given proper use and care, a mean service life of at least 10 years for an item as a whole. Less for batteries though, as most of them are given a hard life by irregular discharging and re-charging, and tend to live to numbers of full charge/discharge cyles rather than the calendar.
Some countries now are making or at least considering laws to make domestic equipment much more easily repairable and for longer times, but that would not be helped if the manufacturers inflate the cost of replacement parts. That policy is partly an answer to the appalling waste, let alone debateable environmental hazards, of worn-out or merely "last year's" electronic equipment merely thrown into land-fill refuse instead of salvaged for their recoverable materials.

Depends how much it's been used, battery condition is a concern too in a 3+ Year old phone. Samsung no longer provides OS updates on phones that old. Electronics are no longer made to last a long time. Manufacturers are coming out with new models almost every 6 months now so the 2018 model is about 5 Generations old. S9, S10, S11, S20, S21. The S9 was a good model but it's a bit outdated now.

@spjennifer I think my first portable 'phone - well before anyone thought of so-called "smart" ones - lasted about 15 years! I'd had to replace its battery after about 12 years, and that was a technically simple task, but its eventual demise from was water penetrating and ruining the display. Otherwise I'd probably still be using it... It was a Nokia but I forget the model.
I tried a "smart"-'phone a few years ago, did not like it and did not want a contract anyway, so paid that off, sold the 'phone and reverted to a basic PAYG instrument. It is apparently linkable to the Internet but would not be much use with a screen only 52mm high X 48mm wide!
Those paying $1000+ for a portable telephone are probably the flashy sort, spending far more than necessary for what is only a communications tool, merely to be ostentatious.

@Thexboxoneguy1991 I forget what mine actually cost but it was bundled with a contract that included my landline and broadband service too, but I think for more than what I pay for them alone.
The phone that replaced the LG "smart"-phone cost about £35 in early 2018, and because I don't use it very often, the call charges have totalled under £30 in that 3 years.

I have a 2018 Samsung galaxy tab, the thing is dead and Samsung asked me to BUY a new motherboard that costs half the money it would cost to buy a new tab galaxy tab s6
