This is probably a record for bringing out the most of the worst fundamentalist atheists in less than an hour

@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP fundamentalist atheist is an oxymoron lol. You can't be a fundamentalist if you have no religion/holy scripture.
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Jessichaos I thought it was people who interpret the Bible literally. I see atheists doing that all the time (when it suits them)
Jessichaos · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP Eh... kinda? To be an actual fundamentalist you need to believe, adhere and/or advocate the strict literal interpretation, which atheists lack. Atheists argue biblical evidence as a form of why its hypocritical, which in a sense is more "espousing in bad faith" than advocating its meaning. If that makes sense?
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Jessichaos well the way I see it, all the technical spin in the dictionary doesn't change the fact that there are atheists out there who are cut from the same cloth as the religious fundamentalists they target
Jessichaos · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I think the same could be said of anyone who is closed minded to opposing beliefs, whether they be scientific, philosophical, religious, or political.
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Jessichaos certainly you could. But it might not always do to apply "fundamentalism" to all those things. There are people already acknowledging that "atheist fundamentalism" is a thing. I doubt they would acknowledge "stamp-collecting fundamentalism". I think a good rule of thumb is that calling something without a religious dimension "fundamentalism" won't get any traction
Jessichaos · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I just can't reconcile the use of fundamentalism in such a way. It's really a bastardization of the definition to shoe horn it into a derogative. 🤷♀️ It would be like saying "carnivorous vegan" or "fascist anarchist"
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Jessichaos I can't think of a better term for someone as bigoted, intolerant, dogmatic and self-righteous as a traditional fundamentalist who also foams at the mouth at religious groups to which they don't belong, but I'm open to suggestions. I can't picture what a carnivorous vegan would be though. I'd probably have to find a vegan who is way off message, then dissect his expressed beliefs and see if his behaviour was actually carnivorous
Jessichaos · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP what about hidebound? 🙂
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Jessichaos is that kind of veganism?
Jessichaos · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP lol no, it may be the word you are looking for
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Jessichaos oh. Sounds kind of mundane and more like something vegans would call someone. Besides, do you see "hidebound atheist" generating a thread this long? 😁
Jessichaos · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I think it's old timey enough that if you fully embrace it, may work.
Curse those hidebound atheists! They are all hat and no cattle! Gasserly gentlemen of four outs, the lot of them!

@Jessichaos whoa! Way too regional for me! Got anything in Anglo Eastern Canadian? Even Newfie or Scottish lowlands would be good
Jessichaos · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I am not sure if I can translate it into newfie because it doesn't involve biting fish heads or screeching. 😜
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Jessichaos oh that's cool, I haven't screeched yet 🤷♂️
