Really bad optics

I am frequently struck by the things people in power do that show how irrelevant they regard the question of "How does it look?"

The Covid-19 virus is rolling over India like a juggernaut. They are reporting a million new cases every three days. (Back in February it was about 33,000 in three days.) The crematoriums cannot begin to keep pace with the death rate; they are burning bodies in public parks. Epidemiologists estimate the actual number of cases is from 5 to 30 times the reports.

A man was arrested for seeking oxygen on social media for his father, accused of spreading false information and panic. There are no beds in many hospitals, no ambulances to take patients there and no critical supplies if they manage to get in.

The cricket association is holding spectator-less matches in big stadiums in six Indian states. The show must go on,

The kicker is the powerful board of the Cricket League has ambulances at the venues on stand-by to treat injured players while ordinary folks call emergency lines that no one answers, and helplessly watch their loved ones die.

Yhe number of deaths recorded are only the ones that have died in hospital.

Modi is more interested in rallying for elections and calling people to vote than the virus.

People are attacking medical staff they are so frustrated.

They are selling oxygen on the black market and also profiteering from selling cremation pictures

All the ant-vaxxers should learn what is happening there can happen anywhere

As for the IPL, a number of overseas players have returned home. Some players have donated money to help the crisis, others have quit saying the cannot play.

I do understand that those still playing say they do so to entertain and uplift the country during lockdown.
@InOtterWords It's the ambulances standing idle in preparation for what might happen to someone financially valuable while unavailable for what IS happening to many that grates.
@Mamapolo2016 but if there is no roo. In the hospital what use is an ambulance.
@InOtterWords True. That's why I said it LOOKS bad. Practically, a handful of ambulances couldn't stem the Covid-tides - but it's how it looks.
@Mamapolo2016 on twitter I was reading about this divisive argument. The stadiums do not have fans watching, it is pretty much the teams, and the coaching and medical staff.
The ambulances there are privately owned so are not taking away any service. It is a bit like here how football ⚽️ continued even if we were in lockdown.
