I’ll admit it; Today the media duped me.

Adam Toledo was reported yesterday as being unarmed when police engaged him. A shortened version of the video is all over the media. The longer version with a pistol in his hand is harder to find.

I like to think I’m pretty sensible and take a balanced view, but today they even fooled me. How annoying. I’m not apathetic to peoples suffering but I’m just going to pay less attention to American media stories.

American media is total rage bait at this point. Believe nothing they say.

You're right. There was apparently a gun. And there was alleged gunpowder residue on his hand. But the video also seems to show a person running, calling it quits and turning around with open empty hands when he was shot. And not to second-guess the police (who may have been completely justified in having his firearm drawn), but the suspect was close enough to tase and not fatally shoot.

The media - who on one hand laments the ongoing shootings as copycats and a quest for notoriety and on the other keeps these stories in the public eye 24-hours a day - weaves their own narrative. Any time of the day, you can catch CNN discussing the human tragedy and push for gun legislation and on Fox you can hear about the need for less restrictive firearm laws and the "chaos" in the black community. One channel shows protesters, the other shows rioters. And when Fox can't spin a story, they simply pretend it doesn't exist.

Most of the media like to create a narrative so they can spend the rest of the day discussing the narrative they've created.
Its infotainment.
