Honest question: why would someone of a certain race be less likely to own ID?

I’m not being provocative, I don’t know the answer and the media says it’s a problem but not why.

I need ID to vote, by alcohol, get in to night clubs, collect secure post and so on. I just flash my licence and move on. Why is it not so easy for others?

I have asked here before, lots of people liked my comment but nobody replied.

As another comment stated, it makes voting for certain groups, like poor people, difficult. This transcends racial boundaries.

However, due to the US's pretty racist history, certain groups are disproportionately poor, so that's how race ties into this.

@deadgerbil No, it doesn’t! That is a lie! One party only benefits from lack of voter ID. We all know which one! We just want parity with the Mexican Voter ID requirement: which is a certified, government, voter ID card with recent, color, face photo! You don’t think there are poor people in Mexico!? There's plenty of poor people in Mexico and the context of discussion is in the US, not mexico. Nice try at comparing apples to oranges. Try having an honest discussion next time.

Snopes is not a legitimate, impartial authority on anything, btw. They are a decidedly Leftist leaning organization. Citing them as such is a joke. And, we are not comparing apples to oranges. That is a false analogy. The US is the last major democracy in the world that so far stalls at certified, Voter ID. @Thorstormbringer just to point something out, yes there are poor people in Mexico, they're usually of full indigenous extraction and face discrimination. And often their votes don't count. Hence one of the reasons of the EZLN uprising.
