I find it is difficult to talk to socialists about anything past 'how is the weather'. Once they contract their thinking in one subject to the government, they cant resist contracting their thinking to absolutely everything else to the government or some authority figure. As a result you cant discuss anything of value with them, and if you try to push for a deeper conversation they always somehow manage to turn you into a bad person.
And of course, because the only way you can truly improve your lot in life is by having the freedom to better yourself through your own work, they end up unsuccessful and bitter, but it can never be the fault of their socialist ideas, they'd rather live in misery than take some self responsibility and somehow blame capitalism or some group.

@pianoplayingsteve makes me think they had parents who would never make them be responsible for their own actions.
