Kyiv is a transliteration from the Ukrainian capital's name in Ukrainian although the version Kiev taken from the Russian applied when the Russians ruled there.

However the dish was dubbed Kiev by the Russian restauranteurs marketing it and predates Ukrainian independence.

@malizz 馃槀 lifted straight from the web! the dish is not Ukrainian, it is French/Russian and you can call it chicken sraka for all anyone here cares!

@Yulianna Thanks but I did not say the dish was Ukrainian and indeed made reference to its Russian provenance. Evidently you must be from somewhere where this issue is of significance. To me it's just a conventional name.

@malizz every one else gets very excited about this... we don't care.

as you say, it is not a traditional Ukrainian dish by any means... and probably not traditional Russian either.

@Yulianna Of course. This has only ever been about the image that certain people in the English speaking world wish to project.

@malizz 馃檪 whatever it is, the dish can be delicious when properly prepared.
