There are genuine people. The numbers are quite low and they're hard to come by but not extinct yet.
This random incident happened to me the other day.
On my way to work, I ran out of fuel on my motorcycle. There wasn't a gas station anywhere near me and even if I had to get to one that would be 3-4 miles away. A person stopped by and offered me fuel despite running on reserve. I felt so bad so I offered him cash to compensate as he had helped me. To my surprise, he denied it. All he said was this, "I hope you get to work safely, that itself is satisfaction for me. I don't need the cash. You can help someone else in need to repay me if you want to."
That was really heartwarming and it's hard to come across such people. I lost hope before that in humanity but my view changed. A small glimmer of hope can make a huge difference.
