Psychology

is acceptance really a defense mechanism
No.
It's a necessary cognitive state before one can deal with anything appropriately.
Acceptance is not the same as tolerance, resignation, or giving in.
It's just recognising reality as it is.

Acceptance free you from pain . It's the mind that catches you after (as in the thoughts)

@Shengyen See if you have acceptance then usually you dont have resentment , fears and life flows but when you dont have acceptance you'd end up trying to control things (or play God) . Depends on a situation but acceptance is the key .
When thoughts come in and out of your mind your supposed to leave them flow but if you grab on to one of them there in control of your mind and you'd end up have no acceptance. That's the best I can explain .
My best learning point was from a bad break up that nearly killed me being honest with pain of it . I couldn't accept even tho I knew it wasnt good for me cause a lot happened in between that . I was trying and trying to make it it work but she didnt love me mo more which is fair enough today and these since I had acceptance over that I dont really care who likes me or not today you cause I've nothing to hide and that experience was the most painful experience that I experienced and looking back at it know it was the best one cause I'm never better in myself as with contentment cause I have a lot of acceptance over situation.

Both denial and acceptance are.
