The answer is actually probably for centuries. Only one infectious disease has ever been totally eradicated from the planet although we are getting close in the second. Once here though it's here to last.
The question is how do we come to a point where we determine we're living with it "normally". Do the new restrictions just become the new normal, does an effective vaccine allow enough community immunity to return to old style living, do we just give up trying to control it and aim at herd immunity accepting the level of deaths that might be needed... Others... A mix of these?
