As a young child I had recurring dreams of black eyed children coming to my room, floating me out of the window. On the last dream they said they had to go, but one could visit me in this ghost like form. Then the dreams stopped.
Years later, I had a very awake seeming dream in which a black eyed child said my friend was back and the ghost entered my room. I then had two more dreams of this child in my room.
I then immediately had recurring dreams of being on an operating table surrounded by large headed beings with big black eyes. On the third dream a being with those features, female but with some human features kissed me and I fell into a pool of some sort of liquid.
Years later as an adult when I moved out, a voice told me it was coming for me and then a black figure appeared through my window. Not long after that I hear crashing in my living room but only remember getting as far as the passageway. The next day I find my solid metal lampshade in the living room way out of place.
I have an ex partner stay over mine days at a time, around six months later. She becomes incredibly distressed at an alleged black figure in the mirror. A little while after that I have a dream in which a hand comes into the bedroom and hovers over us. I try to wake us. The next day the ex partner describes a hand with four fingers and a room like a surgeon's theatre.
Stay over a new partner's house and we hear scraping, croaking in the middle of the night, sometimes going on for several minutes. We both try to find it, we weren't asleep.
Wow! Have you ever had occurrences of missing time? @pianoplayingsteve

@DukeOfEarle Never missing time. These encounters always seemed to be at bed time or recalled in a dream. I had a memory of at an age too young to walk of having woken up on a different floor of the house having not set off the alarm. These dreams fueled reading about alien abduction which I then felt fed more dreams until i had my ex partner come over. I had never told her about the black figure, it was on one of her first visits. I would love to be hypnotically regressed but I would probably 'remember' the contents of the ufo books.
@pianoplayingsteve Hypnosis is tricky. Especially if your mind has set up barriers in attempts to shield you from truths that it deems you might not be able to handle or accept. You could indeed encounter screen memories that are covering the screen memories which are covering the under layer where the truth (or keys to it) may reside. I have in the past encountered dream phenomena where, upon waking, I knew in my gut was not just a dream. It was more akin to a psychic invasion of my subconscious. I am not familiar with your beliefs or lack thereof, nor do I wish to offend either. But I would suggest that since others, who upon first meeting you, and have encountered the same phenomena without knowing about it beforehand until meeting you, would highly suggest that what you’re encountering is a rift or crack into the realm of what we call “real.” If it has been occurring in different locales throughout your life you can rule out a haunting. Haunts seem to be an echo in time-space and are fixated on a locale and not a person. In your case I would opine that you are the rift. This is not an accusation or an attempt to lay blame. You did nothing wrong. Someone at some point in your life may have “opened” you to these experiences. Or it could be something genetic where you have a predisposition for what I call “other space.” In the end I turned toward ritual; An appeal to what powers may or might be to close that window or door you want closed toward a goal of peace. That may give you closure, or, if not peace, then of understanding why these occurrences keep happening. I turned to keltic rituals after all the other things I’d researched in the physical or psychological were shown to be negative or inconclusive. I called the corners and made an appeal for peace and cessation. The rift and phenomena I was encountering stopped shortly after. Your path may turn you to something else that might help you achieve the same goal. In closing I think you should look “outside the box” for the answers you need.
