Possibly controversial but what is religion? I am struggling with the concept...

I was brought up in the Christian faith for my whole childhood and adolescence. I am struggling to know what I really believe. Not meant to be a horrid question but a sincere one.

I love the teachings of Jesus, but I'm not fond of his fan club.
It would seem Christianity has little or nothing to do with Christ's intentions. It's something divisive and controlling and quite unlike anything Jesus had in mind.

Never mind religion. Just follow your heart.
It's there that ALL truth resides.
