Woke up this morning to find ashes spread everywhere from the River Fire just south of Salinas. It's now covering about 10,000 acres. The sun is very orange as it rises. Over the weekend, we had dry lightning and thunder storms, no rain. This is what started this fire. While it's close we are not threatened here in Monterey, except from the ashes, not yet anyway. Hopefully, we won't be. Many have been evacuated, and if gets any closer, our zoo will also evacuate its animals. I will keep you informed as I can. Luckily, we are already in masks, that should also prevent is inhaling the smoke.
Keeping you and yours in my thoughts. It's a rough time. I've been through my share of firestorms here in the San Diego area so know the feeling all too well.
