It is the thief's fault for stealing it. You are perhaps guilty of not taking sufficient precautions with your possessions.

@revenant Then you would definitely be guilty of being careless, but the crime would still be the fault of the criminal. It doesn't matter if you stand in front of a crazed gunman and ask him to shoot you, he's still the only one to blame if he does. The criminal makes the decision to commit the crime, nobody else.
