Okay, still not sure about making a regular post, and being asked to select a group. I want to.make a miscellaneous post but see no group, even though I can post to that category as a question. What am I missing here?

Just find a group close to what your post is about. I like "I have something to say" for my garbage posts. It's kind of all encompasing.
