@JT123 Do people riot when doctors get infected and die in hospital amid an epidemic? Do people riot when firefighters burn to death while trying to contain a fire, like the one that stroke Australia some months ago, or California some years ago? That's definitely a problem too and shouldn't be happening either, but it's part of the risks of the job that you're well aware of when you sign the contract, unfortunately, and something that at least in most jurisdiction they you get well compensated for, or at the very least protected against. On the other hand, that child had no fault, nor was voluntarily putting herself in a risky position.

But that's not even the point of my comment - just saying that people won't stop rioting while force is being used unnecessarily against them like in this instance, under everybody's eyes no less.

@Budwick I don't think that child voted yet, either. At least over here you must be 18 for accessing an electoral poll, or even 25 for some consultations such as the Senate.

Besides, macing a child is not a political matter. Nor a matter about restoring order, it's simply and purely a crime against humanity.

@UnauthorizedAccount Good point. In such a volatile situation, surely it is the first responsibility of any parent to ensure the safety of their offspring. That is more important than making any political or social point.

@Elessar That is another good point. Unfortunately I don't know the geography of the locale sufficiently to see if there were residential areas close to the flashpoints.

@helensusanswift Me neither. In any case even if they were idiots enough to bring a child purposefully in a riot, the trained professional who maced her could've targeted her parent(s) instead.. nothing can justify such a criminal behavior, imo.
