I think making the schools more equal would be a good thing

@IstillmissEP I don’t think I understand what an elite public school is but it sounds like a school where you are taught smarter things. If you want to be taught more advanced stuff why don’t you just go to a private school?

@IstillmissEP i don't think it's about lowering standards as much as giving everyone an equal opportunity chance to attend. i don't think standards of achievement should be lowered. only that there should be no admissions requirements because it is a public school.

@SW-User Dumbing down education is never a good thing.

@IstillmissEP thats the thing, if there are NO admission standards then there is no conflict. not about lowering them but getting rid of them

@IstillmissEP grades can be a measure of quality though book smarts alone does not equal quality of a person alone. some people may have difficulties learning things or emotional problems that get in the way of their education. does this mean they shouldn't have the opportunity to at least try? elevating higher intelligences while condemning the lower ones would create unacceptable divisions that would probably lead to more segregation and civil unrest in a broad application of the situation.

@TexChik but why are people separated by how smart they are in the public education system?

@SW-User people have the right to fail if they choose to ... but making everyone fail is tyranny . The average inner city high school grad in NYC can’t read or write in cursive or understand the order of operations in math . The drop out rate is very high . Thugs run the schools and no knowledge is gained . This smart and driven kids want a good education without the crime and ignorance

@IstillmissEP well, if they are specifically college prep schools and overcrowding is an issue, then the standards should probably remain in place. the fact that there are more whites and asians has nothing to do with racism but admissions scores so legally there is no basis for accusations of racism.

@TexChik it sounds like if the school system Should focus on making the average schools better so the smart kids don’t feel the need go to a different school.

@IstillmissEP life isn't fair. maybe if we worked as a society to quell feelings of entitlement instead of encouraging them this wouldn't be a problem. "to each their capability"

@IstillmissEP I just feel like if you separate smart kids and dumb kids the smart kids get smarter but the dumb kids don’t grow because they feel dumb

@IstillmissEP but why is it the minorities that are struggling?
