No one saves lives, you just delay deaths.

Okay then let's entertain this idea.

Let's say I tell myself that I save lives, I am that powerful, that I defeat death.

When death comes, and I fail/ed, am I going to think that death defeated me? That I am powerful and it was my responsibility to save life? Because that exactly what that perspective means.

Would you rather believe you're against death, or accept the inevitability of it as part of life and your limited control over the circumstances. There is no winning or losing. Or saving or killing, it is just life taking its course including death, and you're doing what you can with little bit of power you have.

It is not pessimism, it is reality.

The person I did CPR on, what bothered me most was, am I doing him a good service, or am I making it worse while his wife and child watch him die a little slower while a huge unfair hospital bill racks up? His wife was there, in shock denial and asked me if her husband was only sleeping?? Adrenaline kicked in especially when I saw his kid there too.@Miram

@Miram Why over complicate the answer to the question "Have you ever saved somebody's life". The answer is yes or no surely.

@BackyardShaman

You did the right thing. Anyone decent with enough skills should do it. It is up to others to decide if their lives are worth suffering, not you.

I know what it is like to have those thoughts though. They kind of stick for a life time.

@Uncfred I take it you don't like my answer. I am sure you know how to scroll away.

I was trained, I came upon this horrible wreck and I had decided to stop and get gas at half a tank, wondering why I had, then came upon this horrible event. I truly believe I have a guardian angel, if I hadn’t stopped for fuel I would have been a victim. @Miram

@Miram I will scroll where I wish, but if you have been in the position that some of us have, I am sure you would act in a positive way.

@Uncfred

I just don't think acting positively includes glorifying my actions. My answer somehow offended you and honestly, that's your problem.

I am going to ignore your negativity from now on.

@Miram The saved lives/delayed death question is a good one. I think I look at it as more of a case of reducing anguish. The mate I stopped from walking onto a railway line - we were only 14 at the time. He had parents, a brother and sister and grandparents too. How devastated would they have been if I hadn't grabbed his t shirt? He's gone on to have a wife and 2 kids, so there's more happiness all round there.
Plus there are the circumstances of death. We all lose people and one day his family will have to lose him. But I think it would be easier for his wife and grown children to accept him passing from old age than his parents dealing with their 14 year old son being splattered across a railway line
