Speaking of smoke alarms...

I replaced the battery in my smoke alarm because it was "chirping." I then pushed the reset button and everything seemed cool. About 4 hours later it began chirping again so I put in a new battery. Again, after 4 or 5 hours it began chirping again.

Does anyone know what may be causing this or how to reset it for good?

Either it's broken, or the wire into the electrical source is loose, or did you put the battery in properly 😊

@SW-User Thanks. Yes, I believe I did. I think I need to call our maintenance man but I have heard they are doing very limited repairs right now.

@MeowsoliniReturns they will probably ask you to work alone, keep your distance

@SW-User Thanks! Will do!

Take the battery out and hold the test button for 10 to 20 seconds, then refit the battery.

@Johnblackthorn OK! I will try that. Thank you!

Open your smoke alarm you may have a wire that’s disconnected

@Jeffrey53 Hmmmm. OK. Will do. Thank you!

I agree with MrPerditus' suggestion of damp or dirt on the sensor. Smoke alarms have even been known to be triggered by spiders or their webs.

@ArishMell Wow, I had no idea. Thank you!

They sometimes chirp when they are past their usable life...

I’ve been known to chirp every once in a while as well!

@Spokeskitties75 I know the feeling!

If it has a hush feature it could be activated or depending on how old it is, could be a warning that it's time to replace it, the smoke alarm sensing chamber could be dirty or humidity could be a factor. Just to name a couple.

@MeowsoliniReturns Hope someone has come up with something helpful. Yeah, those things do tend to upset cats and dogs a bit.

@MrPerditus1 Thanks again 🤗

Smoke alarms only work for so long 7-10 years and then they need to be replaced.

When they start behaving like that... I just replace them.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@SW-User Ah ha! I am pretty sure this one has been around for a long time. Thanks!

It’s either broken or you have the wrong smoke alarm for your ethnicity.
