Aside from pleasure and boredom, why do some people play people?

Because they don't have any regard for others' feelings and simply just don't care

because they fail to realize just how much of an affect someone can have on someone who trusts them and think of life as a game

They want to have their cake and eat it too (now I want cake :( )

Insecurity?

Ego, loneliness, low self-esteem, desperation.

Play may seem a bit dramatic in some situations.

It mostly depends on how people see it,especially online.

I guess some reasoning is never too bad.
It gives out the ways of thinking that can help some people deal with offline problems and opportunities for
possible improvements.

It can also be considered a much more free and harmless way of learning in some cases if people get it right,without encountering them in life later and learning them the hard way.

Because they’re actors, and that’s the role they have to play? 🤔

To make their pathetic lives seem better? I'm guessing it's like any classic situation when you have someone that feels inferior or gets treated that way themselves, they have to do something to make themselves feel better, one way or another. If I'm guessing how you mean that in the correct way.
