People ask what’s it like living in the Soviet Union. I don’t know I was not born then. It is like me asking you if you remember the Confederacy.

Confederacy existed from 1861 to 1865. Obviously no one's alive from that time. USSR was a thing even 30 years ago. Most Russians who are alive now, were actually born in that era. So your analogy is sort of invalid.

@SW-User Okay, but I’m in my 20s. So it’s fair to say those people jumped to a conclusion without considering. It would be like me assuming every American I talk to is fat. Which I don’t.

@Lapochka People assuming you were born in USSR is different than you calling most Americans fat. US is 3rd most populus country. Obviously you'll find more fat people in US than most other countries. Surely you can break their assumption by saying you were born in post USSR era. What I tried to say, Confederacy existed a very long time ago unlike USSR. That's all. :)
@SW-User ..."more Americans fat" is not equivalent to "most Americans fat"...

And her point was that, just like the Confederate States, the Soviet Union does not exist in the present...which is true.
