Put it a different way: would you want a great friend that you spent years talking to and caring about if you knew you'd still lose them the next year? or would you rather you just never had that chance and skipped the let down.
@tigershirt: I wouldn't regret quality time with a friend. Nothing in life comes with a guarantee it will last. But golden memories are something always to cherish.

Exactly. Struggling with that exact question for years now. Cuz even once I work my ass off and accomplish great things it always ends up I'm back at square one nothing to show but memories.
