Mental illness and religion.

Is it time society viewed religious beliefs as a mental illness?
How would society benefit if it couldn't control billions of people with this nonsensical belief?

I always felt both religion and people can be problem. People with psychopathic traits are the ones that become extremists. Some people use religion to draw out their hate and ego on people. Religion is a perfect tool to destroy mankind, not even atomic or nuclear bomb can top that
