Mental illness and religion.

Is it time society viewed religious beliefs as a mental illness?
How would society benefit if it couldn't control billions of people with this nonsensical belief?

Imagine you are on the psychiatrists couch and she asks you what's bothering you?
You reply "Nothing,all is well as an invisible being is in control of my life!(although he lets billions of people suffer)..would the psychiatrist judge you sane or insane?
