Do you refuel your car when it is still half or more full or do you wait until you're almost empty and in the red running on fumes?

I read somewhere that running modern cars down really low can have a few detrimental effects, so i try not to let mine go below about a third of a tank. I usually fill it up each week when it's half full.

@SW-User Good for you. I am not that organized. Lol.
SW-User
@Tomorrow lol yes it's takes some organising. I'm lucky i live alone with no real responsibilities. If i had kids i think it'd be broken down on the side of the road 😂

@SW-User Lol. When the kids were home WAS when I made sure I didn't break down or run out of gas. Lol.

not at all. only thing that would have any effect is trashing floating in tank and fuel getting low enough so that it gets picked up by fuel pump; but at worst it'll just clog up fuel filter

only earlier mechanical injection diesels were a pain in the ass if you ran out of fuel because the lines would vapor lock and you'd usually have to unscrew lines from pump to cylinders and bleed them one by one

@wildbill83 That might have been what i read, that the fuel filter or pump gets dirt in it etc. I'm not much of a mechanic lol.

@wildbill83 Thanks! But like @SW-User I'm not much of a mechanic either. I change the oil, rotate the tires, check the air filter and fluids from time to time but other than that, I take it somewhere to have it checked. :)
SW-User
@Tomorrow Wow you're good. I don't do more than put fuel in mine, check the tyres and top up the screen wash lol. The mechanic does everything else.

@SW-User Oh. Ha. Ha. I should have said I have all that done by a mechanic on a schedule. I let them check everything else as needed. Sorry for the confusion.

@Tomorrow Lol it's ok, it's just how i work, and i also have roadside insurance so if it breaks down, one text and it's fixed or towed to my mechanic. To me a car is just an expensive thing to get me from A to B, i'd rather leave how it works to those who are really good at it.

@SW-User Oh me too! :)
