Intravenous potassium infusion.

@Zoranna Yeah. That'll burn like fire and ruin a vein pretty darn quick.
:(

@Tomorrow It takes so long but I was in so much agony that after an hour the nurses stopped it. My Mother had it and felt nothing at all. Go figure. 🤷‍♀️

@Zoranna Potassium should ALWAYS be run with a diluting fluid and ALWAYS super slow. If it still burns the nurse should slow it down a bit. Very important to know if you ever end up having to have it again. Don't feel bad about asking the nurse what solution it is being run with and how fast.

@Tomorrow They did slow it down but it didn't help. I have a pretty high pain threshold but that was horrendous. I discovered you're a nurse after reading the other responses so thanks for your advice but I'll NEVER have it again. I'll take any amount of pills instead. lol

@Zoranna I get it, really. I have seen a few people who have that same reaction. But in training new nurses, I've also seen a couple who would have infused it incorrectly if they didn't still have a preceptor with them. They weren't bad, just new and inexperienced.

@Tomorrow Maybe that's what happened, I don't know. I didn't blame them at all. I got that wrong, it was going for 2 hours and had another hour to go. I'd been through chemotherapy/radiotherapy though so I don't envisage it happening again. Fingers crossed. :-)

@Zoranna Prayers for you! I hope you don't have to do any of that again either! I haven't worked much with chemo but I do believe it can irritate nerves and tissues so maybe that played a part as well. Sorry that happened.

@Tomorrow Thank you. 🌺
