What kind of drug would a person be on if they shiver in their sleep?

I thought he was just drinking alcohol but I don’t think that’s the cause and he smells like something that’s not liquor or beer

Is he grinding his teeth?
Crack Cocaine:
Crack doesn't release a pleasant smell when it's smoked – it's said to smell like a mixture of chemicals and burning plastic. ... (Extra Tip: The scent of crack smoke is similar to that of meth.)

I used to shiver in bed when I had a very high temperature, when I was in primary school, but I never took drugs.
It might just mean there cold or if they are on drugs it could be withdrawal chills
If it's not substance abuse, it could be sodium valproate.
Maybe he is just cold.
