I also believe in a gap that exists. The ancient Hebrew of Torah actually reads "and the earth became without form......" This could reconcile the fact that we can see further into a night sky with no ambient light, than the bible's implication of the age of the earth. It bothers me that there are people who actually believe the earth is less than 12,000 years old. That is just primitive. Might as well believe we are on the back of a giant turtle.
The only problem is 1:5 that says, "and the evening and the morning were the first day." It is ridiculous to deny the fact that we can see 100,000 years into space, and the bible says clearly that this is all less than 12,000 years old. Yet I am a staunch believer in the apostolic creed and the atonement through Christ Jesus. It presents a bit of a struggle.

@puck61 I do believe the Bible says a day is as a thousand years to God
and some believe there was man here before Adam and Eve ,they were just the chosen to be tested in the garden ,would they avoid satan ,or would they just have to be like God ,learn how to create life ..but that is speculation too .
He assures us when He returns the faithful will be told all He knows ,no more mysteries

2 Peter 3:8 King James Version (KJV)
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

When God told Adam the "day you eat of it you shall surely die "
Then in Gods time ,Adam didn't complete the day .

But the time line depends on the Prophecy ,as in Daniel 7 days was 7 years
