So I decided to join a dating site tonight. I typed this message to one person.

"I thought I reach out to you based on our compatibility scoring and interest in cycling. I enjoy cycling and would enjoy opportunities to get into mountain biking. There aren't many places nearby where I live. I am an "over the road" or "long haul" trucker. I enjoy the frequent traveling. I'd love to hear some about you in your own words, until then Happy Veteran's Day."

How is that for a message to break the ice? I left where I live and the names.

Straight and to the point. You mention your liking for bikes, but unfortunately say nothing about yourself. Perhaps you could give your age, say if you are single and a little bit about your personality? Cheerful, serious or whatever.

@helensusanswift I did in other opening messages, but I guess I'm uncomfortable discussing my "personality" seems hard to describe, because I can say I'm quiet and reserved, but can identify moments when I'm more open. I figured it was a given I was single and looking if I was on a dating site.
