What’s an experience you had that you miss?

I remember having chickens just a few years ago. I built them a mobile coop and grazed them on fresh grass as often as I could. It for difficult on a 1/4 of an acre, but it was so satisfying I regret the day I have them all away. That coop was too heavy to lug around. But it was something I made and was proud of.

Chicken don’t eat grass

@Catzgano yes they do, they are omnivores. I saw and fed mine a lot of grass. They got grain and ate bugs, fruit, and whatever else we had to give them

Maybe I need to add they can’t survive long exclusively on grass like a cow or lamb. I butchered 3 roosters in my chicken keeping and all of them had grass in their gizzards

@MrAboo grass is poor feed for chickens. My moms family has had farms for many years never use grass

@Catzgano disagreed. They didn’t have a monoculture of grass, there was other foraging species like clover for them in our yard

@MrAboo oh idk about clover.

@Catzgano it’s supposed to be high in protein, even good for cattle and sheep

@MrAboo then it’s better then grass
MrAboo · 36-40, M
@Catzgano no lawn should be a mono crop of grass, that I firmly believe, they were primarily on grass only and the soil just needed the grazing pressure from something- might as well have been chickens

@MrAboo I see.
