how to deal with self-doubt?

occasionally i find myself dealing with bouts of extreme self-doubt, and in those times i struggle to find motivation to do anything at all. what's a good plan of action for addressing these times? should i look for a more basal cause and remedy that, or am i better off finding effective ways to deal with it when it happens?

I find that relying on motivation is futile because it is fleeting. It’s here one moment, gone the next. For myself, it doesn’t help to be future oriented (as in imagining how great I can be) because it paints a picture that is so divorced from reality and I will start to feel like I can’t live up to that image of “success”. This creates anxiety, and inevitably stagnation. It helps to get clear with where you are and work on refining your skills bit by bit. The more intention you put behind each small action to do the things you WANT to be better at, this will start to build momentum in the long run. Each small step you take will start to rebuild your faith in yourself and your abilities.
