It makes it easier for a dentist to work on your teeth, especially the back ones.

@SweetMae My jaw always hurt after having work done. The dentist would say I had TMJ from clenching my jaws at night when I slept. I think part of the problem was the dentist putting a device in my mouth to hold it open, and I also have arthritis including in my jaw. I’m sure I don’t have TMJ.

@cherokeepatti That doesn't sound like any fun at all! It must be painful.

@SweetMae The evening before my last day of work before I retired from the university a cold front was blowing it (it was the middle of August, the next day the highs were about 60F.) I chomped down on a raw carrot while I was cooking dinner and I heard a crack in my jaw and thought I broke something. Believe it was arthritis. My jaw swelled up overnight and I have a picture standing with people at work with a swollen jaw. It drained for about 2 days and the swelling went down. I knew then it was arthritis because my joints tend to swell and pop before a cold front comes in or if it is going to rain.
