I don't seem to receive any unsolicited ads from SW at least, but that may because my BT broad-band service offers you a filter option that blocks the so-called "cookies"*. So I take the offer, keeping the functional but blocking the "Targetting" [sic - and sick!] ones.
My secondary, Outlook, a/c, has similar but lets you select or reject individual advertising-agencies or mail-order companies. There are hundreds though, all with names that convey absolutely nothing! Luckily you can turn the whole ruddy lot off by a master "button" at the top - and I do!
Unfortunately these filters only work in the immediate session, so you have to re-select them every time you turn the computer back on and open the Internet service.

A "cookie", we are told, is a very short computer programme or routine. So it's named after a biscuit...???
